Artemus Ward, pseudonym of Charles Farrar Browne, (born ApWaterford, Maine, U.S.—died March 6,Southampton, Hampshire, Eng.), one of the most popular 19th-century American humorists, whose lecture techniques exercised much influence on such humorists as Mark Twain.
